Description of awareness programme

A session on awareness about frauds and unauthorized deposit acceptance by unincorporated bodies (UIBs) was delivered by Market Intelligence Cell, Kanpur in consumer awareness programme “e-Baat (ई-बात)” organized by RBI, Kanpur at Akbarpur, Kanpur Dehat on January 9, 2018 which was inaugurated by District Magistrate, Kanpur Dehat. The programme was conducted for Principals and Teachers from different Government schools in Akbarpur. Around 450 participants including Principals and teachers from different schools were present during the programme. The information on various methods of raising money from public and agencies regulating different entities was shared. The participants were cautioned about UIBs and their activities, fraudulent loan business, fake e-mail / SMS offering prize money, lottery; working of MLM / Ponzi Schemes, wrongful use of RBI logo, RBI NBFC CoR, RBI Governor’s picture/ name, etc. The participants were also made aware about the functions of SACHET website with regard to reporting a complaint with the concerned regulator. In addition, the facility to share information about fraudulent entities and their schemes on SACHET website was also explained in detail. The participants were apprised about initiatives taken by RBI Kanpur to spread awareness by publishing press release / advertisement against illegal entities / MLM and Ponzi Schemes; and sending awareness SMS. The programme was well received by all the participants from different schools.
