Awareness programs for the public
23 January 2017
Girishchandrapur village, Redhakhol, Sambalpur
As part of the initiative to spread awareness amongst the general public, a project for distribution of financial awareness leaflets through the Postal Department to every household in vulnerable areas was launched from village Girischandrapur in the district of Sambalpur on January 23, 2017. The said village was chosen keeping in mind its remote location, susceptibility to financial swindlers and ignorance about financial awareness. On the eve of launching of the project, an awareness camp was organised at the village wherein, nearly 300 villagers including women and children were present besides the Post Master General (Sambalpur Circle) and officials from DNBS & MIU, RBI. In his address, DGM, DNBS explained the modus operandi of unscrupulous and fly-by-night companies and exhorted the villagers to verify the credentials of companies before parting with their hard earned money. He also advised them never to respond to any SMS or e-mail telling them that they have won a lottery or some prize money and asking for details of their bank accounts etc. To mark the beginning of the project, the first set of awareness leaflets were symbolically distributed by the village postman in a nearby hamlet in the presence of Post Master General (Sambalpur Circle) and officials from DNBS, RBI. Besides, awareness trainings for police officials, students of Government Women’s College and members of SHG were also organised in Sambalpur District on the side-lines of the launching programme.
